Unstable Molecules by James Sturm
I don't know if I didn't get this because I was missing too many references or if I didn't get it because it was supposed to be followed up by two sequels that (as far as I can tell) never saw the light of day. The four characters in Unstable Molecules are the four characters that would have become the Fantastic Four had they been in space as they were in the first issue of the comic book. Except that didn't happen. So we have our four characters struggling with their respective issues in a bland and normal world. And nothing much happens.
