Funknicity by the New Orleans Nightcrawlers

Funknicity by the New Orleans Nightcrawlers

I kind of hinted at that when I reviewed the Nightcrawlers' debut a couple of months back, but I really don't understand how they have gone past me for so long. And while their debut was fun and all, it was also steeped in tradition, not super distinctive. With Funknicity, they embrace a much more modern street vibe, while not mimicking what Rebirth or the Soul Rebels are doing. In other words, Funknicity is raucous, funky (as you'd expected), brash and wholly exhilarating. A special mention to Heavy Henry, with as guest the immortal (though sadly departed) Henry Butler, as mad and unexpected on the brass end as it is on the piano end. Superb.
