The Power Fantasy by Gillian and Wijngaard
It's not often I read a superhero story that manages to invent something new about the genre. The Power Fantasy does exactly that: superheroes are only a handful worldwide, their powers are colossal, and some time ago a conflict escalated and wiped out most of Europe. As a consequence, there's a mutually assured destruction peace of sorts, but instead of being between governments, it's between individuals, albeit near godlike ones in power. It's a really interesting take that at least is more sensible than the classic "protecting banks for no apparent reason" trope. This first volume only sets out the basics of the story and the characters, but I sure hope to read the rest.
