The Thursday Murder Club

The Thursday Murder Club

I really enjoyed the novel in a light hearted crime whodunit kind of way. The movie is neither more nor less. The cast is partly stellar, with Helen Mirren as Elizabeth and Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim shining particularly, the tone is true to form with a small number of faux-pas that are easy to forgive. Brosnan is too posh for his role, and it shows (I wish they'd cast someone with a true working class background), and the coppers, especially Daniel Mays are written way too goofy for the tone of the story, I think. On the other end, Johnathan Pryce is magnificent, and the main source of emotion, as his character is in the book.  Ultimately though, as enjoyable as this is, like the book, it's not unforgettable. It's a great evening's entertainment, which I suppose is not a bad thing in and of itself.
