Arco
I didn't know what to expect from this, except the reviews were good and I knew it was Young Adult animation, scifi (and French). In the end, a pleasant movie although maybe not as mindblowing as the reviews led me to believe. Without spoiling much, there are two timelines in Arco, both in our future: one in which the Earth is mostly flooded and humans live in autonomous platforms way above ground, self sufficient but living sparsely, and and earlier one in which human society is still functional, and highly automated, but where the danger of ecological collapse is real and nearby. When teenager Arco goes truant on his family and travels back in time so see dinosaurs, he messes up and ends up in Iris' timeline. There are lots of themes I loved in Arco, and the somewhat heavy ecological backdrop is balanced by a lot of humour. I wasn't 100% sold on the artwork, and I felt the story was maybe a bit too naïve, but it's a really good pick and (unsusprisingly) my teenage daughter loved it.
