Beauté de Hubert et Kerascoët

Beauté de Hubert et Kerascoët

From the very start of this older 3 volume series by Hubert and Kerascoët I thought about Peau d'Homme and sure enough, having finished Beauté, I checked and found out Hubert was the writer on both. There are a lot of common themes between the two, first and foremost being the role of women in society and the social expectations of them. Where Peau d'Homme had a female character discovering the gender gap by donning a man's skin, Beauté is about a not so good looking woman being granted the wish that everyone will find her irresistibly beautiful. Overnight, men start courting her and wanting her for their own while women distrust and hate her for her beauty. There's more to it than that, but suffice it to say the story's development is really good. High quality entertainment with a lot of depth. Highly recommended.
