Bowling with Corpses by Mike Mignola
I'm not a huge fan of Hellboy and/or BRPD so while I appreciate Mignola as an artist, I can't say I'm a huge fan. I read his Baltimore a few years back and while I enjoyed it at first, I felt it got repetitive real quick and ended up way too long for a good story. But I heard lots of good stuff about Bowling with Corpses so I decided to give it a go and... it's the best Mignola I've read. It's truly magnificent, an Eastern European flavoured Sword and Sorcery fantasy world depicted in an impressionistic way via a multitude of short stories. It's masterful world building, full of flavour and fascinating characters. Absolutely recommended.
