French science-fiction and furthermore set in Paris? It's not every day you get to see that and while I feared disappointment I decided I couldn't miss out on seeing it at the movies. I was quite pleased with the movie in the end. In a dystopic but not so far out future, Paris is stratified socially and geographically, with the first sector where the elite lives in luxury, the second sector where productive people live in relative tranquility and wealth, and the third sector where people live in squalor, misery and violence. When the creator of ALMA, the artificial intelligence that assists cops in their work is assassinated, finding out who did it becomes a matter of national security, and leads to the unlikely teaming up of a young and ambitious cop from sector 2 with an older grizzled cop from sector 3... The plot isn't hugely original and not devoid of holes, but it's well led and avoids the usual pitfalls of many such movies to get to a mostly satisfying ending.
