Le signe des rêves by Naoki Urasawa
I've been quite fond of the collaboration series between the Louvre museum and comic book artists. It delivered a few absolute gems and (to be fair) a few disappointments. While this 2 volume book by Naomi Urasawa isn't all bad, it does fall on the side of the disappointments I'm afraid. We follow the story of a Japanese man and woman who come to France at the instigation of a mysterious character who wants them to steal an antique sculpture from the Louvre (very topical, I know). There's a wackiness to it all which I've seen in some manga already, but I really struggle with. Also, a lot of the plot hinges on references to a famous character in Japanese manga from the 60s and 70s, which obviously I couldn't get. Long story short, while I didn't find this a hard read, I don't think it's a memorable one either.
