Takin' my time by Bonnie Raitt
I realised recently that while I liked nearly everything I've heard of Bonnie Raitt, from her classic ballad Angel of Montgomery to her fantastic collaboration with John Lee Hooker on In the Mood, I didn't own any of her albums. I researched things a little and got hold of "Takin' my Time" in part because it was recorded with Little Feat as a backing band. To be honest, the album is a mixed back and while the rock and bluesy numbers are generally good, the attempts at calypso and reggae just fall flat in my opinion. The two shining jewels are the opener, "You've been in love too long", a funky, groovy piece that would not have been out of place on a Little Feat album, and the closer, a wonderfully brassy cover of Randy Newman's "Guilty" made famous by Joe Cocker (and the Blues Brothers a decade later).
