The cartoonist’s club by Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud
Once upon a time (in the distant 90s) Scott McCloud published a seminal piece of comic book art entitled "Understanding Comics". A young Raina Telgemeier read it as she was falling head over heels for comics. She went on to become a bestseller comic book author focused on mainly Young Adult stories. They were destined to meet and (ultimately) work together. The cartoonist's club sits bang in the middle of their respective worlds. It's a story of a group of high school kids who start a club to learn how to draw comics and emulate each other. It's also a theoretical and practical guide to comic book design that outlines a lot of the specific vocabulary of the medium in a way that teens (and others) can easily understand. It doesn't pack the emotional punch that the best Telgemeier books deliver, but it still works as fiction. A great present for your teenagers.
