Una Faccia In Prestito by Paolo Conte
Not easy to define this in-between space where Paolo Conte's music sits. It's undoubtedly got jazz and blues influences, in addition to Italian folklore and some French folklore too. Ultimately though, it's its own thing, and Una Faccia in Prestito is a fine addition to the canon. It starts jazzy, and then goes full Italian. There's one track I really find irritating, but apart from that, it's all good stuff. The piano is very present, there are no attempts at modernising the sound (this is 1995 so my guess is Conte has tried that and knows it doesn't work, I'm looking at you "Paolo Conte Concerti".) Long story short, this one is a gem, full of atmosphere with Conte's deep and misty voice front and center.
