Departing by Jesus Molina

I stumbled upon videos of Jesus Molina with Roni Kaspi on drums on Youtube and liked their fiery collaboration so much that I went back to find this album on which they play together. Molina is a piano virtuoso and then some, which isn't always something I enjoy when listening to jazz, but he's also super playful, which makes even the maddest most complex passages eminently enjoyable. Kaspi brings a similar rhythmic fun to the proceedings, and bassist Sam Smith is rock solid and inventive too. The album is a mix of classics and originals, all given a decidely latin flavour. Favorite track so far is the 11/8 version of Night in Tunisia, which absolutely kicks ass.
