Desdemona and the Deep by C.S.E. Cooney
This faerie inspired fantasy novella riffs on the notion that material world and faerie world(s) used to be connected but are no longer. It also introduces Industrial Revolution themes around worker rights and exploitation. But it doesn't really deliver any depth on either of those threads, so in the end what's left is an entertaining but shallow story. I wondered throughout if this was a Young Adult book, and I'm still not sure.
