On I Bang by Miles Jupp

On I Bang by Miles Jupp

I like Miles Jupp, whose humour can be incisive, but if very upper class British at the same time. I'd heard that he'd had some kind of health scare a few years back, but didn't know what it was, nor that he'd made a stand-up show to address that. On I Bang is basically Jupp telling the story of his brain seizure from the moment it happened to his recovery. You would think that's not very funny, and truth be told there are moments that really grip you especially if, like me, you've been hospitalised for something life threatening and came out the other end. But it's also hilarious in all the little things that you observe while in that indeterminate state of "will I survive", in the attentions (and oddities) of the medical system, in your own reflexions and thought processes. Ultimately, On I Bang is both deep and funny, moving and hilarious. What the greatest comedy is made of.
