Vertù by Vertù
Yet another album recommended by Andy Edwards on one of his in-car reviews. A lot of the late 70s fusion that I should really love is a bit too romantic and wishy washy for my tastes. Vertù is a super group consisting of Stanley Clarke on bass and Lenny White on drums, keyboardist Rachel Z, violinist Karen Briggs and guitarist Richie Kotzen. While released in 1999, the self-titled album clearly draws from its Return to Forever roots, but with a much more muscular and in-you-face approach that I found really compelling. It's been on heavy rotation since I got it, really well worth a listen.
