Leonardo2Vinci by Stéphane Levallois
Found this in a flea market. It's a large format and gorgeous graphic novel that is part of the collaborative projects with comic book writers that the Louvre has been issuing in the last 15 years. Leonardo2Vinci (2 is pronounced "de" in French) is a science-fiction story. In a far future, the last remnants of humanity are fleeing from an alien race intent on eradicating them. The scientists amongst the fledglings create a clone of Leonardo da Vinci from DNA samples on one of his surviving paintings, in the hope that his genius will save them. I'll not say more about the plot, but despite a very busy and chaotic art style, I found this both beautiful and engaging. In many ways it reminded me of 70s French sci-fi graphic novels from Druillet or Moebius (although graphically it has nothing in common with either.) Experimental, but quite successful in my opinion.
