Descender Compendium by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen
I'd read the first few TPBs of Descender way back when and liked it, so when the opportunity arose to read the whole story arc I thought it worth it. While I read it to the end and didn't feel like I was wasting my time, I found it rather disappointing in the end. It starts very science-fiction, with a classic narrative thread in the opposition of humans and robots in a far future space society, but gradually more and more fuzzy elements are introduced that undermine the premise, in my opinion. Furthermore, Lemire's robots are humans here in all but appearance with nothing to distinguish them in terms of behaviour from humans, frailties and all. I ended up unconvinced. There is a follow-up more focused on the magical aspects of the world, but I think I'll give it a miss.
