Little Criminals by Randy Newman
For a while now I've been intending to get into Randy Newman's seminal albums of the 70s. I just didn't know where to start, but when I saw Immediate Family, there were excerpts from Short People, the opening song of Little Criminals, and I was hooked. In truth, I don't think the album is ever as good as that first song, which is fantastic both in its music and lyrics, but I know I'll be revisiting it, if only because Newman's writing is so incredible, the depth in the lyrics require repeated listening. The music is really fantastic too, with (thankfully) not too much of the idiosyncracies of 70s productions (strings, ugh...) Really interesting album.
