Foundation & Empire by Isaac Asimov
The brilliant finds of Foundation are a little far away, narratively speaking, and Foundation & Empire, while a fun romp in good continuity with the previous opus feels like entertaining space opera rather than stimulating scifi. Doesn't make it a bad novel, but obviously it's not as mindblowing as the early discovery of psychohistory. Two points of note: the book leads to a massive reveal at the end, so rereading it doesn't quite work so well ; Asimov finally introduces a female character who, while she still cooks for her husband and plays the dutiful wife is the only one who figures it out. Progressive, 1950s edition.
