Colette by Vidal & Consigny
I'm always in two minds about graphic novel format biographies. On the one hand, I knew very little about Colette, and learned a lot not only about her life but about the influence she has had on subsequent 20th century artistic, literary and societal movements. On the other hand, there seems to me to be little in the way of a point of view here, this is a straight chronological narrative and towards the end you're kind of left with a "so what?" It's not bad, and the loose drawing style fits the topic well. Reminds me of the feeling I had after reading Josephine Baker by Catel & Bocquet. It's interesting, but it lacks framing in a way that leaves me frustrated.
